We have a unique vantage point: we grew up transitioning from playing outside and visiting youth centres to a world where everyone is consumed by their phones and non-stop technology. We understand what the world looked like before it went fully digital, but we have also been sold a dream that hasn’t necessarily materialised.

The tension we feel right now stems from a stark reality: the old playbook simply doesn’t fit our current lives. We crave opportunity, but we often fail to recognise that true opportunity actually lives within our existing experiences.

For many professionals, this lack of recognition leads to stalled momentum. I experienced this myself back in 2018 when my finances were entirely out of order. I was trying to pay my way into success by taking out loans and credit cards, and as a result, I completely lost my sense of self. The hurdle of debt felt so enormous that I was stopped dead in my tracks, unable to reach the potential I knew I possessed from an early age. When your foundation is fractured by debt or a lack of direction, the dream of independence remains just that, a dream.

Humility, Auditing, and Real Ownership

The breakthrough comes when you stop waiting for permission. You have to go out and get it, which starts with being abundantly and brutally honest with yourself about your circumstances.

You must critically analyse what you do extremely well.
Identify the specific problems you have solved and the tangible benefits you have realised.
It doesn’t always have to be monetary; it just needs to be something you can measure and count.
Do not waste energy on your weaknesses; partner with someone else, pay someone to do it, or simply choose not to do it at all.

Embrace Humility to Create Runway

If you are in crazy debt, you must humble yourself and find a way to grind and get it cleared.
In my late twenties, I consolidated my loans, stopped going out for 18 months, and aggressively paid down my debt.
Having minimal debts is part of the bigger definition of real ownership and power.

Building Your Visibility Engine

Once your foundation is clear, you must execute a proper process. The right process consistently beats random hustle. Over the past few years, the questions I hear from aspiring consultants are always the same: How do I secure my first contract? How do I position myself properly? How do I build income streams that aren’t tied to just one job? Here is how you begin moving forward:

Stop skipping steps: You cannot skip shortcuts in this process. Going the extra mile means thoroughly talking to your network and reaching out to introduce yourself.
Ensure your branding is immaculate: From your haircut to your LinkedIn profile and the way you speak, your brand must be on point.
Track every single move: Do not wing it. Start with your warm circle, ask for referrals, and then move to cold outreach.
Use a visibility tracker: Keep a tight rotation of your connections, their roles, and your past conversations, much like a CRM. Be upfront and keep it 100% honest about why you are connecting with them.

The Human Commodity in an AI World

We are currently navigating a world filled with geopolitical wars and rapid shifts in the career landscape. AI, fake news, and manipulated media surround us. Because of this, brand and genuine connection are what will make you stand out.

There is a growing danger of becoming super lazy and overly reliant on tools like ChatGPT or Claude. If we rely on AI to do our real thinking, we risk becoming illiterate and foolish. Instead, you must be the supreme architect. Use these tools to leverage your IP and fill in process gaps, but always use your own brain first. Ultimately, humans can never be truly replaced… yet; there will always be a high premium and commodity placed on genuine human experience and community.
